London's Various Production are one of the most consistently impressive electronic acts these days. Through a string of (initially anonymous) singles on their own label they've brought the electronic music world takes on everything from grime to dubstep to minimal techno to folk music, an eclectic attitude perhaps best experienced on their full-length album, The World Is Gone.
Various Production created tracks that often had vocal and pop elements, but always with a dark, experimental edge.
A track like "Today" from The World Is Gone is emblematic of their sound, mixing Massive Attack-style soul vocals with massive dubstep bass and a foreboding atmosphere. Since revealed as Adam Phillips and Ian Carter, the band are also prolific remixers and have collaborated with vocalists such as Gerry Mitchell and UK hip hop act Virus Syndicate.
