Clark

  1. If there was ever a "child prodigy" of IDM, Birmingham-based musician Chris Clark might qualify. Clark somehow pulled the trick of having his debut LP, Clarence Park, which he recorded mostly in college, released on legendary electronic imprint Warp Records.

  2. Although Clarence Park clearly marked the arrival of a new artistic voice, with his initial releases Clark was working within the tried and true bounds of classic IDM, pulling influences from artists such as Aphex Twin, Autechre and Mike Paradinas.

  3. Body Riddle was an IDM album that felt truly modern with a dark, industrial influence on some tracks, but also organic sounds of piano and guitar.
  4. It wasn't until 2006's Body Riddle, however, that Clark really became a force to be reckoned with. Body Riddle was an IDM album that felt truly modern - in its own way more clinical and advanced than his predecessors, and betraying a dark, industrial influence on some tracks, but also taking in the organic tones of piano and guitar.

  5. Clark's status as one of the most original and important artists working within the IDM genre was proven again with the release of his Turning Dragon in 2008, as well as Totems Flare in 2009, LPs that upped the industrial and electro quotient in his music. With Aphex Twin still MIA from releasing new music, it's nice to know we have artists like Clark around to create innovative albums that will be remembered for years to come.
