Carl Cox

One of the first DJs who could command a global following, Carl Cox remains a mainstay of the dance music world and one of the most sought after performers in the techno and house club scene. Carl Cox began his career as a DJ in the late 80s, where he was a part of the early dance music scene in the U.K. along with DJs like Laurent Garnier and Pete Tong, playing early house, acid and hardcore records at clubs and outdoor gatherings. Renowned for his ability to play long, engrossing live sets, where he would spin on three turntables instead of two, Carl Cox soon rocketed to the forefront of the house and techno scene.

Despite a steady string of artist releases, Cox remains best known for his DJing. One of his most successful releases is the F.A.C.T. compilation, the first edition of which was released in 1995. F.A.C.T. showcased the range of the vibrant electronic music scene, incorporating Detroit techno by artists such as Jeff Mills, as well as European techno and tracks that veered more towards the trance end of the spectrum. This was followed by a well-received artist album, At The End of The Cliche. Carl Cox has displayed a similar eclecticism with his DJ sets, often working in bits of techno, house, trance, and other genres.

Cox also helps run two labels, Intec and 23rd Century Records. Throughout his career, he's also played an important role as an evangelist of sorts for the dance music scene, with his friendliness and outgoing persona being key elements in his success.
