An Angolan MC, Sebem, is widely viewed as the godfather of the sound. Kuduro was then imported from Angola to Lisbon, Portugal, where Barbosa, Pité, Carvalho and Ângelo picked it up and eventually decided to begin producing music themselves.

Honoring the roots of the sound, their first release, From Buraka to the World, featured vocals by an Angolan MC. Their work attracted the attention of UK world music/ electronic star M.I.A., who guested on a subsequent single, "The Sound of Kuduro."
