One of the most important voices in contemporary electro music, Andrea Parker grew up in Kent in the UK. Originally classically trained at playing the cello, she became influenced by early electronic such as Art Of Noise, and began to produce synthesizer-based music.
In the early 90s following the explosion of rave in the UK, Parker formed the group Inky Blacknuss with producers Alex Knight and Ian Tregoning, releasing on Andrew Weatherall's Sabrettes label. The latter part of the decade saw her sign with well-known downtempo label Mo' Wax, where she released her solo debut, "Kiss My Arp" in 1999.
Andrea Parker moved from dabbling in the early 90s electronic scene to becoming one of the key figures in contemporary electro music with her Touchin' Bass label.
However, Parker's output was quite different from the majority of Mo' Wax's artists, being much more synthetic and cold, drawing heavily from the work of artists like Cybotron and Aux 88. In 2002, citing creative differences, she formed her own label, Touchin' Bass with long-time production partner David Morley.
Touchin' Bass went on to serve as the leading label for the niche, but still vibrant, modern electro scene, releasing artists such as Bitstream, Dez Williams and SCSI-9. A retrospective of Parker's work, "Here's One I Made Earlier…" was released in 2007.
